Although it's been nearly two decades since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was released and transformed the Call of Duty franchise from Medal of Honor 's chief rival into the blockbuster powerhouse it is today, the FPS series is still rolling along. This October will see the release of its 23rd mainline installment, the somewhat confusingly-named Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 , featuring two parallel stories following series protagonist Captain Price and a new soldier in South Korea, Private Park, played by The Last of Us Season 2 star Young Mazino . Perhaps even more buzzworthy, however, is that the franchise is finally getting the feature film treatment at Paramount from Peter Berg and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan and will deploy in theaters on June 30, 2028. For all the action that's happening now, though, the general consensus is that the franchise's best days are past it.
