1,600-year-old Byzantine Christian town unearthed in Egyptian oasis with church and 200 ostraca

Archaeologists have uncovered a well-preserved 5th-century Byzantine Christian town in an Egyptian oasis, built from mud brick. The site features streets, towers and a large church, along with everyday objects including grain grinders, an oven and around 200 ostraca — ancient receipts and notes written on broken pottery. It is considered one of the most significant Byzantine sites discovered in Egypt.
