id Software down to Doom 2016 headcount after Xbox layoffs cut nearly half its staff

Microsoft laid off 96 id Software employees in Richardson, Texas, plus 40 remote workers — roughly half the studio's staff. id Software told IGN it now has the same headcount as when it made Doom (2016). The cuts are part of new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma's "reset," which has eliminated around 3,200 jobs across Microsoft Gaming and shuttered four studios.
