Chat Control 1.0 passed — mass surveillance of EU communications approved

Legislation known as Chat Control 1.0 has been passed. The regulation requires communication service providers in the European Union to mass-scan users' messages for illegal content — a move critics argue fundamentally undermines privacy and end-to-end encryption.
