Doom: The Dark Ages is a hit, but Xbox has laid off most of id Software's staff
Id Software's Doom: The Dark Ages received strong reviews and achieved the studio's biggest launch ever, yet Microsoft has laid off more than half of the studio's 186 employees as part of broader Xbox cuts totalling 1,600 jobs. Bethesda and Obsidian Entertainment were also hit, with Obsidian cancelling an Avowed sequel to pivot to a new Fallout game. It marks one of the largest staff crises in Xbox Game Studios history.
