NOAA raises odds of a historic 'super' El Niño since records began in 1950
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has raised the likelihood of a "super" El Niño event that could rank among the strongest since record-keeping began in 1950. Such an extreme event is associated with severe weather phenomena worldwide, including droughts, floods and record temperatures. Federal forecasters are warning that the impacts could be felt on a global scale.
