US Marines Successfully Test New Medium-Range Air Defense System MRIC on Guam

During Exercise Valiant Shield on Guam on June 30, 2026, U.S. Marines from III Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Blaz successfully used the new Medium-Range Intercept Capability (MRIC) system to shoot down an aerial target. MRIC is the Corps' first medium-range air defense system since the HAWK platform was retired in the 1990s. Deployed on trailers carrying 20 interceptors each, the system can engage targets from 2 to 43 miles away, bridging the gap between the man-portable Stinger and the long-range Patriot missile.
