UK court rules Home Secretary Mahmood's cuts to trafficking protections unlawful
A UK High Court judge has ruled that Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood acted unlawfully by reducing protections for potential trafficking victims. The change in guidance was made to facilitate the "one in, one out" asylum returns deal with France, which removed the right to request reconsideration of denied trafficking claims. The legal challenge was brought by five small boat asylum seekers — four from Eritrea and one from Sudan — who had been earmarked for return to France.
