FIFA deploys on-site VAR chiefs at World Cup from quarter-finals onwards

From the quarter-final stage of the World Cup, FIFA is implementing a new rule: a chief VAR official and a deputy will be physically present at each stadium. Previously, all VAR decisions were relayed from a central hub in Dallas. The change is intended to improve the reliability of officiating at the most critical stage of the tournament.
