Israel expands control in Gaza as civilians bear deadly toll

Since the US-brokered ceasefire earlier this year, Israeli forces have pushed deeper into Gaza, expanding control well beyond the half of the territory they held at the time of the truce. Nightly shelling and daytime gunfire have become routine for Palestinian civilians. The expanding zone of control is inflicting a deadly toll on the local population.
