England have been happy with their Kansas City base but it has led to them travelling more than the other quarter-finalists – here’s just how much more

Much was made of the challenge England faced by playing Mexico at altitude in the Azteca Stadium. The greater concern might be the enormous cumulative distance the team has travelled at the World Cup. It is far greater than any of their rivals.

The Football Association chose to base England in Kansas City , even though the team were not scheduled to play any of their matches there. They reasoned that a central location would limit the length of flights the players had to take for any of their fixtures. But it has also ensured they have made round trips of at least 670 miles for every game, if we keep things simple by measuring straight lines between the cities of their base camp and match venues.

Jeremy Faust cuts through a hallway of Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital on his way to see a patient who is struggling to breathe. It’s the start of his evening shift, and the emergency department hums with ambient sound: bleeping monitors, the rumbling wheels of medical carts, the squeaky soles of hustling staff. People on gurneys line the corridor, some wincing in pain, others chatting with relatives.

On this Wednesday evening in May, Faust is working what is typically a quieter shift, as far as emergency departments go. Still, he is overseeing a team of doctors, students, and physician assistants, and will tend to more than two dozen patients before signing off for the night.

It’s an understatement to say Faust likes to keep busy. Minutes earlier, he’d posted an article on his influential Substack newsletter, Inside Medicine, providing an update on a major international news story. An alert sent to the newsletter’s nearly 85,000 subscribers announced his “scoop”: Twenty-six passengers aboard the MV Hondius , the hantavirus-hit cruise ship docked at the time off Cape Verde, had disembarked much earlier than previously known — raising the possibility they could spread the rare virus in the United States.

Google has said it will start labeling ads created with generative AI tools.

The information will be displayed in the “My Ad Center” panel, which can be accessed via the three-dot menu or the info icon on ads.

It’s also adding a new control for businesses to indicate that an ad was created with AI tools.

Google loves putting ads anywhere and everywhere it can. There are ads on YouTube, Search, and Discover. The company even tested ads in AI Mode . However, not all ads are good. AI has made it really easy to create ads, and they can often be misleading. Now, Google is trying to help users identify ads made using AI.

Google announced in a new blog post that it will start showing labels for ads made with AI through a new “How this ad was made” section in the “My Ad Center” panel. This panel can be accessed by tapping on the three-dot menu or info icon on ads.
