Silesian mines could serve as Mars mission test sites

Underground tunnels in former Silesian coal mines could realistically simulate conditions on the Moon and Mars, says Leszek Pietraszek, head of the Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolis board. Unlike sterile labs, the mine workings offer authentic test environments for space mission preparation. The region aims to leverage this potential within European space programmes.
