Heat Kills an Estimated 5,100 People in Germany in First Half of 2026
Germany's Robert Koch Institute estimates that around 5,100 people may have died from heat-related causes in the first half of 2026. The final week of June was especially deadly, with heat-linked deaths exceeding 4,300 in that period alone. The figures are the worst recorded since the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
