Silesian mines used to simulate Moon and Mars conditions for space research
Leszek Pietraszek, head of the Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolis (GZM), says that the region's underground mine workings provide an ideal testing environment for space technologies. Unlike sterile laboratories, the mines allow realistic simulation of conditions found on the Moon and Mars. The GZM sees space exploration as deeply rooted in the identity of this historically mining region.
