Marine Cloud Brightening Could Weaken Super El Niños, Study Finds
A new computer-modelling study suggests that marine cloud brightening — artificially increasing the reflectivity of clouds over the ocean — could mitigate the effects of powerful El Niño events. Researchers simulated what would have happened had the technique been deployed during historically strong El Niños. The findings open a debate about whether deliberate climate modification could be used as a future mitigation tool.
