China allows PhDs without a thesis — graduates can submit a product instead
China has introduced a new system allowing PhD candidates to graduate by submitting a practical product instead of a traditional research thesis. Nature spoke to three students from the first cohort to benefit from the new rules. The initiative aims to produce graduates more focused on industry and innovation rather than academic publishing.
