Ukrainians in Poland to lay wreath at Volhynia massacre monument in Warsaw on July 11
Ukrainians living in Poland have pooled funds to buy a wreath in the colours of both countries, which they will lay at the Volhynia Massacre Monument in Warsaw on July 11, the anniversary of the 1943 atrocity. The organisers acknowledge they expect controversy but state clearly: "The UPA is not our hero, and without honouring those killed there can be no genuine Polish-Ukrainian reconciliation." The gesture is intended as a symbolic act of remembrance and reconciliation.
