Over 1,250 cyclospora parasite cases in Michigan alone – state's worst outbreak ever

The CDC reports over 1,000 cases of cyclosporiasis across the US, with Michigan alone recording 1,251 cases as of July 9 – the largest such outbreak in state history. At least 20 people across 17 states have been hospitalised with severe gastrointestinal illness. The CDC and FDA are investigating clusters in Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas; the illness is caused by the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis, spread through contaminated food or water.
