Legionnaires' disease outbreak sickens at least 28 in Manhattan's Upper East Side

At least 28 people have fallen ill with Legionnaires' disease, a severe form of pneumonia, in an outbreak centred on the Upper East Side neighbourhood of Manhattan, New York. Health officials have tested water from nearly 160 building cooling towers to trace the source of the bacteria. Experts warn that the climate crisis is worsening exposure to Legionella, making such outbreaks more likely in the future.
