Giant hogweed in bloom in Poland – how to recognise it and avoid burns

Giant hogweed (Heracleum sosnowskyi) is currently in bloom across Poland and poses a serious health risk: its sap, when exposed to sunlight, causes severe chemical burns that can take weeks to heal. The plant is tall with white flower clusters and grows along roadsides, riverbanks and wasteland. Experts advise avoiding contact, especially on sunny days, and seeking medical attention immediately if skin exposure occurs.
