Man loses hand after picking up explosive device on California beach

A man lost his hand and suffered metal fragments in his eyes after picking up a bomb-like device he found on a California beach. His daughter described the explosion as turning "a simple act of kindness into a life-changing emergency." The man had apparently tried to remove the dangerous object from the beach.
