Nextcloud exposes 367,000 records in major data breach – staff and client data leaked

European cloud provider Nextcloud left an unprotected ElasticSearch database exposed on the public internet, leaking around 367,000 records totalling 8 GB of data. The exposed information included staff emails, client contracts and internal scripts. The breach was discovered in mid-May 2026; Nextcloud secured the database within two days of being notified and attributed the incident to a hosting misconfiguration, stressing that customer servers were not affected.
