Over 80% of buildings in European cities have too few nearby trees to fight heat
Researchers from RMIT University in Australia analysed 25 European cities and found that more than four in five homes and workplaces have too few trees nearby to effectively mitigate the effects of heat waves. The problem is not limited to southern Europe but also affects major cities in the UK, France, Italy and Germany. The lack of urban greenery raises health risks for residents during extreme heat events.
