NASA Satellite Spots Giant Green Vortex in Baltic Sea — Toxic Algae Bloom

NASA's Landsat satellite has photographed a vast green vortex tens of kilometres across in the Baltic Sea. The phenomenon is caused by a massive cyanobacteria bloom that creates so-called dead zones — oxygen-depleted areas lethal to marine life. Scientists warn that such blooms are recurring with increasing frequency in recent years.
