5,120 heat deaths in Germany between April and late June, RKI reports

Germany's Robert Koch Institute reported that 5,120 people died from heat-related causes between 6 April and 28 June. Mortality rose sharply whenever the weekly average temperature exceeded 20 degrees Celsius. The figures come amid a broader wave of extreme heat sweeping across Europe.
