Historian: Jedwabne was a hammer blow to Polish historical memory
Historian Dr Krzysztof Persak, in an archival interview with Onet, describes the massacres in Jedwabne and Radziłów as exceptional even among the more than 20 anti-Jewish incidents of that period in Poland. He stresses that both towns saw attempts to exterminate their entire Jewish populations. He calls the revelation of these events a profound shock to Polish collective memory.
