Climate Change May Bring Dangerous Microsporidian Fungi to Europe

Microsporidia — single-celled parasites that science only recently reclassified as fungi rather than protozoa — have until now been considered an exotic and little-known threat. Rising temperatures driven by climate change may, however, allow them to spread into Europe. Researchers warn they will need to dedicate increasing attention to these organisms in the coming years.
