Cephalopod Brain Size Linked to Their Habitat
A new study finds that cephalopod brain size appears to be linked to the complexity of their habitat rather than their social environment. Octopuses, squid and other cephalopods living in more complex surroundings tend to have proportionally larger brains. The finding challenges prevailing theories that social interaction is the primary driver of intelligence.
