2027 Corvette Grand Sport Already Makes Up 35% of Production After Just Three Weeks

Chevrolet kicked off production of the 2027 Corvette in early June.

Of all 2027 C8s built over recent weeks, more than a third are Grand Sports.

Both the new Stingray and Grand Sport use Chevy’s 6.7-liter V8 with 535 hp.

Long before Chevy pulled the wraps off the much-anticipated 2027 Corvette Grand Sport, the smart money said this new addition to the C8 range would shoot up the popularity charts in a hurry. Freshly released production data backs that up. After just three weeks, the Grand Sport is running only narrowly behind the upgraded Stingray, which is a remarkable showing for a car that only just reached the line.

Production figures shared online through the C8 Corvette Owners Group on Facebook show that Chevy began building 2027 Corvettes on June 8, before pausing work at the Bowling Green site last week and through this week for its usual summer shutdown. That gave the tally a fairly short window to accumulate, which makes the Grand Sport’s early standing all the more telling.

Across the three weeks that 2027 Corvette production was underway, 1,689 cars rolled off the line, Corvette Blogger reports. Of those, 590 were the new Grand Sport, a 34.9 percent share of all C8 models built during the period. The Stingray remains the highest volume model with 719 units in total, or 42.5 percent. As for the Z06, ZR1, and ZR1X, a total of 241 Z06s, 91 ZR1s, and 48 ZR1X models have been built for 2027 so far.

Chevrolet has yet to start production of the Corvette Grand Sport X, which serves as a replacement for the all-wheel drive Corvette E-Ray hybrid. It’ll be interesting to see how popular this model proves to be, but it is unlikely to match either the Stingray or the regular Grand Sport for volume.

To Buy A Stingray Or A Grand Sport?

The new Corvette Grand Sport , equipped with the GM’s exciting new 6.7-liter naturally-aspirated V8 and the same widebody design as the Z06 and the old E-Ray, starts at $86,000 in the US. By comparison, the 2027 Corvette Stingray starts at $73,495. The engine of both versions is identical, meaning the Stingray and Grand Sport both deliver an equal 535 hp and 520 lb-ft (705 Nm) of torque.

Given this, there will probably be plenty of buyers happy to get a Stingray and save over $12,000 from a Grand Sport, but as we can tell from production numbers, Chevy expects many to prefer the wide body and more planted stance of the GS. In any case, its been reported that the first customer deliveries of 2027 Corvette models could start this week.
