Maja Chwalińska to debut at WTA 1000 event as defending champion withdraws

Maja Chwalińska, who rose from 114th to 21st in the WTA rankings after reaching the Roland Garros final, will officially make her debut at a WTA 1000 tournament. The 24-year-old Pole is not expected to play on clay in Hamburg beforehand. The defending champion has withdrawn from the event, clearing the way for Chwalińska's first appearance at that level.
