18 Ancient Egyptian Tombs Opened After 2,000 Years — Dead Found With Golden Tongue Amulets
Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has announced the discovery of 18 ancient tombs at the Marina El Alamein site on the country's north-western coast. The approximately 2,000-year-old burials were exceptionally well preserved. A striking feature is gold tongue amulets placed in the mouths of the deceased — a Hellenistic-era ritual believed to grant the soul a voice in the afterlife.
