DNA analysis confirms Francesco de' Medici died of malaria, not poison

A new DNA analysis of Francesco I de' Medici's remains has found evidence of malaria in his bones, leading researchers to conclude "with scientific certainty" that the Tuscan ruler died of disease in 1587, not arsenic poisoning as long suspected. The finding undermines centuries-old theories that his brother Ferdinand had him poisoned. The study resolves one of the most famous mysteries surrounding the Medici dynasty.
