UniCredit nears 50% voting rights in Commerzbank, mBank's parent

Italian banking group UniCredit says it now holds nearly 50% of the voting rights in Germany's Commerzbank, the parent company of Poland's mBank. Commerzbank responded that independent shareholders were not interested in the takeover bid and that it is sticking to its own strategic plan. The move marks another step in UniCredit's bid to take full control of the German lender.
