Neanderthals and Homo sapiens shared shell trinket culture, new research finds

Scientists analysed artefacts from a limestone cave on the Mediterranean coast and concluded that Neanderthals and early Homo sapiens may have shared similar survival strategies, stone tool technologies and symbolic traditions, including decorating with shell trinkets. The findings suggest that an affinity for shell ornaments is a deep, cross-species cultural trait. The research adds weight to the idea of shared cultural roots between the two species.
