Oxford calculator predicts muscle side-effect risk for statin patients

Researchers at the University of Oxford have developed a calculator that estimates an individual patient's risk of serious muscle disorders when taking statins, among the most widely used cholesterol-lowering drugs. The tool is designed to help doctors make more personalised treatment decisions. Muscle-related side effects are one of the leading reasons patients discontinue statin therapy.
