Le Pen launches presidential campaign despite upheld EU funds embezzlement conviction

Marine Le Pen launched her fourth presidential campaign in the small Loire Valley town of La Flèche after an appeals court cleared her to run despite upholding her conviction for misusing millions of euros in EU public funds. The far-right Rassemblement National leader had faced the prospect of being barred from office following the embezzlement verdict. Her eligibility to stand despite the upheld conviction has proved controversial in France.
