Oil prices surge over 5% as US strikes Iran again and ceasefire collapses

Brent crude spiked to a daily high of $79.26 per barrel — a rise of over 5% — after the US launched fresh strikes on Iran near the Strait of Hormuz, breaking a fragile ceasefire. Gas prices rose, stock markets fell and government bond yields surged on fears of inflation and interest rate hikes. Holiday operator Jet2 reported that summer bookings are up 7.1% year-on-year, as consumers had waited to see how the Middle East conflict developed before booking travel.
