WHO: cancer breakthroughs bypass millions of patients in poorer countries

A new WHO annual report warns that remarkable scientific progress in cancer treatment has changed very little for millions of patients globally, particularly in poorer countries, due to persistent inequities in access to prevention, diagnosis and care. WHO estimates that one in five people will develop cancer, and 92% of people will be affected either personally or through a close family member. The report highlights devastating physical, emotional and financial consequences for those without adequate access to cancer services.
