July 9: 120 Chinese martyrs canonised by John Paul II in 2000

On 9 July, the Catholic Church commemorates Saints Augustin Zhao Rong and 119 companions, martyrs who died during persecutions of Christians in China. Pope John Paul II canonised all 120 of them in the year 2000. The group included both foreign missionaries and native Chinese Christians.
