OpenAI launches GPT-5.6 after US government lifts release ban — beats Claude on coding benchmarks
OpenAI launched its GPT-5.6 model, also called Sol, on Thursday after the US government lifted a release ban that had been imposed pending additional safety testing. The model outperforms Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5 on coding benchmarks at roughly half the cost. Binding government standards for future AI model approvals still do not exist.
