Swimming with contact lenses risks serious eye damage
Wearing contact lenses while swimming in the sea, a lake or a pool is dangerous because water can carry bacteria and microorganisms that cause serious eye infections, including corneal inflammation. Lenses absorb water and trap pathogens against the eye, significantly raising infection risk. Opticians recommend using prescription swimming goggles or removing lenses before entering the water.
