ZUS: Survivor's Pension 3701 PLN vs. Own Retirement — Which Pays More?
Poland's Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) clarifies the choice between a survivor's pension after a deceased spouse — worth 3,701 PLN — and one's own retirement benefit, which starts at a minimum of 1,978 PLN. The better option depends partly on whether the recipient plans to supplement their income with work, as the rules on combining employment with benefits differ between the two. ZUS also notes that in some cases it is not necessary to choose just one benefit — both can be received simultaneously.
