Le Pen sentenced to house arrest, still announces 2026 presidential run
The Paris Court of Appeals found Marine Le Pen guilty of embezzling European Parliament funds and sentenced her to one year of house arrest with an ankle monitor. Despite the verdict — handed down the same day — she announced she will run for the French presidency in 2026. Le Pen plans to appeal to a higher court, which she says will lift the ankle monitor obligation in the meantime. "The French people will have the final say," she told TF1.
