Archaeologists find 3,000-year-old proto-city complex in Northern Ireland

Archaeologists working in Northern Ireland have identified a settlement complex over 3,000 years old that could rank among the earliest proto-cities in Europe. The discovery challenges the assumption that early urbanisation was confined to the regions of ancient empires further south. Researchers say the site's scale and age were entirely unexpected.
