Male Dragonflies Use Fighter Pilot Tactics in Mid-Air Dogfights
A study published in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface found that male dragonflies engage in aerial "dogfights" over breeding territory using the same tactical positioning principles as human fighter pilots. These manoeuvres differ from those used during prey pursuit, and are governed by relatively simple rules. Researchers say the findings could inspire smarter drones guided by basic vision-based systems rather than complex computation.
