China's DeepSeek Plans to Make Its Own Chips to Bypass US Export Controls

Chinese AI startup DeepSeek, whose large language models rival those of OpenAI and Anthropic, is working on entering the chip-making business, Reuters reports citing three sources familiar with the matter. The company has spent roughly a year meeting potential hardware partners and hiring engineers for the project. The move is a direct response to US export controls restricting China's access to advanced semiconductors.
