French court clears Marine Le Pen to run in presidential election
A French appeals court on Tuesday upheld Marine Le Pen's conviction for embezzling EU funds but cut her ban on holding public office from five years to 15 months, potentially opening a path to the 2027 presidential election. Le Pen was sentenced to three years in prison — two suspended and one to be served under an electronic ankle tag. She had previously said she would not run for office while wearing such a tag, leaving her political future uncertain.
