Le Pen gets 15-month ban and ankle tag: path open to 2027 presidential race
A French appeals court on Tuesday upheld Marine Le Pen's conviction for embezzling EU funds but shortened her ban on holding public office to 15 months, theoretically leaving the door open for her to contest the 2027 presidential election. She was sentenced to three years in jail — two suspended and one under an electronic ankle tag. Le Pen is due to give a prime-time interview on TF1 at 8pm, where she may announce her political intentions despite having previously said she would not run while wearing an ankle tag.
