Fort Haugheya: archaeologists uncover 3,000-year-old European city

Archaeologists have identified Fort Haugheya as one of Europe's oldest cities, dating back approximately 3,000 years. For many years, Europe was believed to have developed urban centres far later than the great cities of the Middle East. The site meets the key criteria for a city: spatial organisation, permanent structures, craft specialisation, trade and centres of power.
