The Vistiq’s third-row seats will need to be replaced with safer ones.
GM started testing the Vistiq’s seats after Hyundai’s recall in March.
While GM is aware of six incidents, it hasn’t been informed of any injuries.
Earlier this year, the tragic death of a two-year-old in Ohio pushed Hyundai to issue a global recall for the Palisade . The problem was alarming enough on its own. The second- and third-row seats could forcibly fold away even with an object, or a child, in the way. It turns out the flaw isn’t Hyundai’s alone.

GM has just issued a recall for Cadillac Vistiq models in the United States, revealing they too could suffer from a similar fault. According to the recall notice issued by the NHTSA , the third-row seatbacks can be folded into the stowed position with the press of a button in the cargo area, or a button on the pillar adjacent to the seat.

As with the Palisade, the seatback will not automatically reverse upon encountering an obstruction. Crucially, and unlike the system in the Hyundai, the Cadillac Vistiq’s seatback will at least stop if it senses an obstruction. While that’s better, a child could still get trapped under the seatback as it folds, potentially causing injuries.

A total of 14,540 vehicles are involved in the recall. These consist of 13,629 examples of the 2026 Vistiq, manufactured from November 12, 2024, to April 9, 2026, as well as 911 units of the 2027 model, built from January 16, 2026, to June 15, 2026. GM halted 2027 shipments on June 8, 2026, and 2026 production has already wrapped up.
How Did It Find The Problem?

In the recall notice, GM acknowledges that an engineer submitted a report through its Speak Up For Safety program after evaluating the Vistiq’s seat following Hyundai’s recall. During testing, the seatback failed to return to its upright position after being folded down onto a box. The automaker is aware of 6 incidents or complaints potentially related to the fault, but isn’t aware of any injuries.
Dealers have been instructed to replace the folding third-row seat module, though replacement parts aren’t ready yet. As an interim step, owners can take their vehicle to a dealership to have the third-row folding function disabled. Once the parts arrive, the feature will be reinstated and updated through a separate customer satisfaction campaign. Owners can expect to hear about the recall on August 3.
